About Me

My Photo
Hi, I'm Vivian and I'm a uni student obsessed with fitness and food (I know, it doesn't exactly go hand-in-hand). I'll have my "no eating out" times and my "I deserve to try new food" moments. I'm on a mission to try new places, mainly around the Adelaide CBD, on a student budget. Rarely you'll be seeing expensive, fine dining on my blog, but that's an occasional thing. I have a lot of posts on Sydney restaurants too, because that's where I spend all my holidays. Read on for my pictures and opinions on the food Adelaide has to offer! Got something on your mind? Alfresco

I think I'm starting to get into this whole brunch business. Keen for a brunch to cure last night's hangover, I was looking forward to finally eating at East Terrace Continental (ETC) Cafe, but was in for a disappointment as we walked into a highly busy restaurant and was told that we need to have had a reservation. Oh well, lesson learnt for next time.

Strolling around for quite a while (every cafe was unusually busy on this particular day), we eventually decided to settle for Alfresco because it was not as busy as the other restaurants.

One chocolate milkshake and an iced coffee were ordered at our table, but the chocolate milkshake was in one word - pathetic (it was as if they just blended milk and milo together), and as for the iced coffee, I make better ones at home.

Crepe (fresh strawberries & freshly whipped cream) - $8.00
We wasted no time placing our orders, as our grumbling stomachs were demanding a quick serving of food to fulfill our hunger (and cure my hangover). Within 10 minutes, Tina's crepe was placed in front of her. This was certainly one delicious crepe. Having one bite just made me more impatient for my meal, however, little did I expect to have to wait an hour later for mine (and everyone else's food).

Eggs Benedict - $11.90
Remember how I said I wanted to try Eggs Benedict for brunch at other places? Well I guess I kept to my word. The hollandaise sauce on this was just spectacular. It almost made up for me having to wait so unbearably long for my meals (Let's be honest, does this, and the meals below, take an hour to make? Alfresco was the epitome of terribly poor service!). The poached eggs weren't made as well as they had the potential to have been. I prefer mine just soft in the centre, as opposed to the solid yolk that I got.

Eggs (fried) on toast - $6,90, with sausage - $2.50, hash brown - $2.00, Swiss brown mushrooms - $2.00
Eggs (fried) on toast - $6,90, with sausage - $2.50, hash brown - $2.00, roasted tomatoes - $2.00
I hope I never have to come back to Alfresco again. No one should have to wait an hour for something as simple as the brunch we were served. The food was not top notched, so customers should not have to put up with such incredible appalling service. Did I mention that they forgot to bring out the tap water for the table? What a disappointing start to the day.
