About Me

My Photo
Hi, I'm Vivian and I'm a uni student obsessed with fitness and food (I know, it doesn't exactly go hand-in-hand). I'll have my "no eating out" times and my "I deserve to try new food" moments. I'm on a mission to try new places, mainly around the Adelaide CBD, on a student budget. Rarely you'll be seeing expensive, fine dining on my blog, but that's an occasional thing. I have a lot of posts on Sydney restaurants too, because that's where I spend all my holidays. Read on for my pictures and opinions on the food Adelaide has to offer! Got something on your mind? Citi Zen

Ok I'll admit it - I'm a big fan of yum cha! It's just such a great experience being able to directly choose your food as they come, ordering whatever you want, as much as you want! I've been to Ding Hao and loved it, so when one of my university friends told me about Citi Zen, it was a must-go for me! She claimed that it was better than Ding Hao. We'll see now...

The interior design was a factor that had me falling head over heels. It was such a lovely place just to relax on a beautiful spring morning with close friends.

Now I bet my bottom dollar you're all waiting to hear about the food! They were pleasant, and safe. What didn't happen was the appeal. There's some restaurants out there where every dish is bursting with flavours. Citi Zen was missing that.

 Prawn Dumplings (Har Gow)

 Dim Sims

 Satay Pastries

 Mango Pudding

I'm sincerely sorry for not taking photos of all the food we ate. There was much more variety on our table than this, but I forgot about the camera whilst busily (and happily) stuffing my face with food!
 My lovely friends!

Myself and the rest of our group!

So the verdict - which is better? I'll have to say Ding Hao won this round. Ding Hao's foods are slightly tastier and just a bit less pricey. The bill we were presented at the end of our Citi Zen yum cha experience was higher than I normally have to pay. Either way - I haven't eaten at any yum cha in Adelaide that have hit the jackpot for me yet. I've had some excellent ones in Sydney! Keep your eye on this blog for some upcoming Special Edition posts on dining in Sydney.

There's something I have to say about Citi Zen though - the customer service was absolutely fantastic! They accommodated for us in every way. We were constantly being offered foods, they were understanding when I told them that only half the original number of guests were turning up (due to a previous wild late night for some - hence recovery was needed in the morning), they didn't rush us to get out at all - despite the fact that the restaurant was becoming more full and we were clearly done with eating! I loved that we were treated with so much respect!
