About Me

My Photo
Hi, I'm Vivian and I'm a uni student obsessed with fitness and food (I know, it doesn't exactly go hand-in-hand). I'll have my "no eating out" times and my "I deserve to try new food" moments. I'm on a mission to try new places, mainly around the Adelaide CBD, on a student budget. Rarely you'll be seeing expensive, fine dining on my blog, but that's an occasional thing. I have a lot of posts on Sydney restaurants too, because that's where I spend all my holidays. Read on for my pictures and opinions on the food Adelaide has to offer! Got something on your mind? Chocolate Taperia

Chocolate Taperia was actually suggested to me by Raoul himself! Knowing how much I loved trying new places, especially those with a LOT of chocolate - Raoul knew how excited I would be at the prospect of having dessert here!

I was more than impressed with the decor of Chocolate Taperia - it was dimly lit, not too dark but rather emitting a perfectly intimate atmosphere, and the aroma of those cocoa beans was the cherry on top of the cake! It's one of those rare places I would go to just for the environment rather than just the food itself.
Naranja - $6.00

I'm actually quite sorry to say that the Naranja (Orange flavoured Belgian chocolate) which Raoul ordered both looked and sounded better than it tasted. I had a bit of his and it was quite bland and the texture was as if someone had quickly made a 2 minute packet hot chocolate at the back of the kitchen! Even I make better homemade hot chocolate than this!
Raoul being a bit cute with his hot chocolate!

Chocolate Taperia is known for its specialty - churros. Let me tell you, I am a huge fan of good churros! However, I had read plentiful reviews complaining about how Chocolate Taperia churros are 'dry' and 'small' and are associated with other connotations of unpleasant! So I chose to avoid ordering the churros this time round. What a huge mistake - John and Raoul both ordered the churros plate with dipping sauce (John chose Dulce de Caramelo, which is the sweet caramel sauce, whilst Raoul chose Chocolate de Leche, which is the Milk Belgian chocolate sauce). The churros tasted fantastic (the boys were kind enough to let me share some of theirs), they weren't as small as I thought they would be, and they certainly were not dry! The sauces were made very well, and eating it sent me to chocolate paradise!
Churros - $9.00  &  Churros sauce - $2.50

I chose the De chocolate Marron (Chocolate brownie with hot dark Belgian chocolate ganache and vanilla ice cream) instead. Raoul thought it was "the best brownie I've had in my life!" but I didn't enjoy it as much. I thought the brownie was slightly on the drier side - I didn't finish it all (I NEVER leave behind even a crumb of any good dessert). I wouldn't say it was the worse dessert I've had, or even one of, but I'll let this one be something I going to choose not to try again. I'm rather keen on trying more of Chocolate Taperia's desserts!
